Our Favorite Zinnias for the Cutting Garden

Zinnias are the backbone of our summer cutting gardens at Green Willow Gardens. Their vibrant colors, reliability, and cut-and-come-again nature make them a must-grow flower season after season. Here are some of our favorite varieties that bring beauty and abundance to our farm.

The Oklahoma Series

The Oklahoma series is a standout in our cutting garden for its smaller, fully double blooms and incredible productivity. These zinnias add delicate texture and rich color to our arrangements. Our favorite shades include:

  • Oklahoma Salmon – A soft, warm peachy hue that complements nearly any bouquet.

  • Oklahoma White – A crisp, clean white that is perfect for classic, elegant designs.

  • Oklahoma Pink – A sweet, cheerful pink that brightens up any arrangement.

Giants

For large, show-stopping blooms, we turn to the Benary’s Giant series. These zinnias produce huge, dahlia-like flowers on long, sturdy stems—ideal for cutting.

  • Benary’s Giant Salmon Rose – A lush, romantic shade of pink with warm salmon undertones.

  • Benary’s Giant Wine – Deep, rich wine-colored blooms that add drama and depth to our bouquets.

  • Pink Luminosa – A bright, bubblegum pink that is both playful and striking.

Queen Red Lime

A unique and beloved variety, Queen Red Lime boasts unusual, muted tones of dusty rose, green, and mauve. Its vintage-inspired color palette makes it a favorite among designers and flower lovers alike.

Shorter Landscape Varieties

While our focus is on zinnias for cutting, we also grow shorter varieties for landscape use. Year after year, Raspberry Ripple has remained a standout. Its bicolor pink-and-white petals add charm to garden beds while still being a great option for smaller arrangements.

Where to Find Zinnia Seeds

Zinnias are widely available, making them an accessible choice for any gardener. Some of our favorite sources for high-quality zinnia seeds include:

  • Johnny’s Selected Seeds

  • Urban Farmer

  • GeoSeeds

Although online seed suppliers offer excellent selection and quality, you can often find zinnia seeds at local grocery stores, hardware stores, and garden centers.

Whether you’re growing zinnias for their bold colors, dependable performance, or their endless blooms, these varieties are sure to bring joy to your garden and your floral designs. Happy planting!
