Creativity in the Field: A Look Back at Flora in Focus
Flora in Focus with Rachel Evelyn Photography was our first event in the flower field this year, held on a warm July evening that kicked off the season in a really meaningful way.
We welcomed a mix of flower farmers, photographers, and gardening enthusiasts to the farm. People wandered the field, talked flowers, compared notes on how their season was going, and connected in an easy, natural way. It felt relaxed and unforced, exactly how we want the field to be experienced.
Rachel shared her approach to photographing flowers and people, along with practical tips that attendees could actually use. Nothing overly complicated, just thoughtful guidance on light, angles, and composition. In the months since, I have seen several attendees put those tips into practice, which says a lot about how useful the teaching really was.
After the discussion, Rachel photographed each attendee. One of my favorite parts was seeing flower farmers bring their own blooms to include in their photos. It added a personal touch and made each headshot feel true to the person behind it.
Looking back now in December, Flora in Focus stands out as a strong start to our season. It set the tone for gathering in the field with intention, creativity, and connection.
Rachel and I have been friends for over a decade, and over that time we have each built creative businesses rooted in our own strengths. Flora in Focus felt like a natural collaboration, bringing photography and flowers together in a way that was practical, creative, and useful for the people who attended. Being able to host this together in the field was such a special thing!
Thank you to Rachel Evelyn Photography for sharing your expertise and collaborating with us on this event, and thank you to everyone who spent the evening in the field with us. Your curiosity, creativity, and willingness to learn together are what make gatherings like this worth hosting!
